Some Facebook updates are good — cats, babies, humour, the unexpected.

But, I love helping people be better at business because of social — not to be better comedians —  should be posting cats videos?

The steps are simple: people must know you, like you, and trust you, before they buy from you.

Ignore a step and people are gone. Zig said it best:

Variety is the spice of your Facebook Page status updates. The stating place is to check your Facebook Insights for what’s is and is not working. Do more of one and less of the other.

#1 — Post a Fact

Many post have interesting points, argument, statistic or angles that are worth sharing. Use those statistics as a post update.

#2 — Share a Tip.  to supply with private or secret information; inform

Begin your status update with the word “Tip“. Your readers will understand it’s a tip and your status update stand out in the news feed. Tip: make your tip high quality!

#3 — Endorse Content with a “Enjoying Reading: ____ ” prelude

I use this on Twitter as a value add to my followers. This Tip provides more insight then simply ‘here is the link to an article’. Bonus –  add why the article is useful for your fans. Like a takeaway point.

#4 — Mix it up ‘Don’t always as a Question’

Which is sound advice. Variety is the spice of life. Mix up your posting. Follow ‘thought leaders’ in your niche and see how they post. Follow or Fan pages that are unrelated to your field and see how they are using Facebook. Following outside your industry adds ideas and variety to your news feed and your life.

#5 — (Inspire Action) or use Call to Action in your posts CTA

“If you’re on Pinterest, feel free to repin!” This can engage people and get repins and post likes. ‘Like’ and ‘share’ requests are CTA, but, you can to better than ‘like this post’

#6 — Trailer and foreshadow, tell your fans what to expect

#7 — Use a P.S. (post script)

Add a “P.S.” to your message. It’s a simple and powerful letter writing and email marketing tip. Using a P.S. and a P.S.S. is proven and effective way to grab the readers’ attention. Test using a “P.S.” line in a few status updates and see if it improves the engagement.

#8 — Use a link Shortener

Use short links: Bit.ly, ow,ly and many others, to make your post briefer and more likely to be shared.

#9 — Overlay Text onto your Images

PicMonkey will help you add the right HTML description to your images, which improves the pictures and probably improves your SEO.

#10 — Ask for Comments

Easy, cheap, and simple to implement. Part of the #5 the Call To Action.
