The Top 5 Links for the Week
A weekly compilation of the 5 best pieces of quality content that came across my desk.
1) Social Media Hashtags
Hashtags are one of the main connecting elements on social networks. After the connection between people. There are many how to
resources on the web and I dared to add my views on taming Hashtag on Social Media.
In June of this year Facebook introduced #Hashtags. The usefulness of hashtags on Twitter is easy considering the public and open nature of Tweets.
Closed is the default privacy setting on Facebook status updates which means searching for hashtags extreamly limited. This offers significant challenges for hashtags on Facebook.
Big brands have jumped into hashtags and AllFacebook covers the topic in some depth in this article.
How Big Brands Use Hashtags On Facebook, And How You Can, Too
Within one month of being able to post clickable hashtags, more than 50% of top 100 brands on Facebook have used hashtags at least once in a post – AllFacebook via SimplyMeasured
2) Is Everything Legal on Facebook?
The obvious answer is no. Search Engine Journal via Jim Belosic of ShortStack explores five of the questions and provides some answers and insight.
The Facebook Rule Book States:
- A cover photo cannot contain more than 20 percent text
- Promotions on Facebook must be administered within Apps on Facebook.com, either on a Canvas Page or a Page App.
- You must not use Facebook features or functionality as a promotions registration or entry
- You must not notify winners through Facebook
- If you collect info, you will: obtain their consent, make it clear you (and not Facebook) are the one collecting their information, and post a privacy policy explaining what information you collect and how you will use it.

The Content Marketing Institute asked eight ‘thought leaders’ in content marketing what are their favorite tools to help in managing content marketing. Their tool choices are a diverse collection worthy of consideration and inclusion in every marketers tool box. And the choices are worthy addition in this weekly round-up.

4) The KCPB Internet Trends 2013 Report
Whilst this report published in May of this year the finding are important for any company with a presence on the internet.
Of the 117 data and information packed slides many are worthy of highlighting. This mobile traffic measured as a percent of global internet traffic slide highlights the change in devices happening.
[Tweet “In 2013 15% of #Global internet traffic comes from #Mobile devices. Are you ready for the shift?”]
The report is filled with clickable tweets as the above one. I have included the report in its entirety and its available for free.

5) Slideshare as a Marketing Channel
Have you heard of slideshare? Do you service the B2B sector? Slideshare may be for you important channel you are overlooking.
At its core slideshare is a website to where you upload your presentation. They are available to view, share, comment upon, download and a lead generation source. (yes there are privacy settings available, but you’re trying to get you work in front of as many eyes as possible, therefore why hide you work).
LinkedIn felt Slideshare was important enough and purchased them for $118 million in 2012.
Why use slideshare as a channel and lead generation source?
- It’s one of the top 150 sites on the web: SlideShare even beats out well-known websites, including popular online community Reddit and file-sharing giant MediaFire.
- It draws 50 million unique visitors a month: SlideShare visitors spend time sifting through extra content, rather than bouncing after their first visit — 3+ minutes on average.
- At any given moment, SlideShare visitors are perusing around 1,140 slides: That’s an impressive level of viewership — with a lot of potential for creating engagement. (All stats pulled directly from SlideShare, some updated based on interview.)
Again Content Marketing Institute offer multiple reasons for the use of Slideshare as a lead generation channel.
