We all can write website content. And can put even more words.
Yet, dos more words make more cash-in-hand-buyers?
The question you should be asking:

If starting from scratch what are the not-to-miss non-negotiables for website content?
What are the words and methods to convert window shoppers into cash-in-hand-buyers?

#1 Often less is more.

Don’t worry, I am Urban Renström, there is always science and research involved in everything I say, teach, and demonstrate.

Here is the Less-is-more: TL; DR.

There are 3 Schools of Website Content for Websites

The first school is NO – “NO! We do not publish” on our website.

“We don’t serve their kind here!”

Remember the bartender shouting “We don’t serve their kind here!” in Chalmun’s Spaceport Cantina in Mos Eisley to Luke and Obi-wan? These “we don’t publish here” businesses don’t publish articles on their website come hell or high or the second coming of Christ. #Flatearth anyone?

The second school are the hippy-dippy “I’m free” writers. They spontaneously and haphazardly publish unfiltered ideas and thoughts onto their blog for all the world to see. Any subject will do.

The third school is exact and precise, strategic and planned. They have a 12-month plan in hand and actioning the plan.

The plan is linked to products and services. Keyword research is done. Pillar pages and topic clusters are decided and mapped. Value ladders overlayed and lead magnets plugged in with email autoresponders at the ready. All. Planned. Out. Ready. For. Action.

Three schools’ of web content. Only one is ready to make more sales.

Do you care to guess which door the million-dollar golden ticket is behind?

What is the Goal of Writing Great Website Content?

The goal, THE GOAL, of your website content is to Make. More. Sales.

Right?

Make more sales. We all want to grow revenues and Level:Up to our natural plane of “businexistence”.

How does one write blog posts and web content to make more sales? Well, there is writing for people and there is SEO writing. The difference is Google is doing its level best to kill the SEO writing.

There is Writing and then there is SEO Writing

The goal of writing website content is to help people.

How to Write Website Content and offer products for your customers

SEO writing is keyword stuffing a post under the premise that the frequency of use of the keyword will improve the likelihood of the page ranking higher in the SERPs. This tactic kinda worked in the past.

The purpose of Google’s Helpful Content Update is to reduce the probability of keyword-stuffed posts being on page 1 and visible on the search engine results page. I.e. a penalty for keyword-stuffed posts.

“…ensure people see more original, helpful content written by people, for people…” continuning the update said writers should write web content that “focus(es) on people-first content“.

The helpful content update is mana from heaven for writers.

We cannot completely ignore SEO. Our SOP tells us to use keywords in the right place and in the correct amounts. Plus perform other On-page SEO techniques.

Look:

Writing for people and writing SEO content are one and the same.

So you need to write a keyword-centred problem-solving helping blog post that honours SEO.

Both are essential for digital marketing success. Essential for brand awareness. Essential for search engine optimization. Essential for content marketing, social media, email marketing, satisfying the customer journey and every outbound marketing campaign you can think of.

SEO informs the writing and writing improves the SEO.

But you’re probably wondering:

How to get found in search engines if I don’t keyword stuff?

The silver platter has all the questions people ask. These questions are the keywords. Use those keywords in specific places in your blog post (the process is called On-page SEO) so the search engines understand the context of the blog post.

But, if the Google helpful content update quashed keyword stuffing then what is the role of SEO?

  • SEO helps you get found in the SERPS, which leads to:
  • People clicking your links, which leads to:
  • More and better traffics, which leads to:
  • Building trust with people, faster, and helps:
  • Convert traffics into sales.

But, do your eyes glass over when you hear the word search engine optimization? Or does your little🦎 lizard brain take over forcing the fight-or-flight instinct?

I get it. I understand SEO is confusing, take a deep breath and 🧘‍♀️!

Luckily for us, WordPress does all the heavy lifting backend SEO wizardry. But part of your SOP for writing content for a website is thinking and acting on a few basic SEO principles. ->See this future not yet written article.
