I am Urban Renström from www.urbanrestrom.com
This is the inaugural Urban Renstrom Podcast.
The focus is ‘Why Digital Marketing Works (and why it doesn’t)’.
This podcast and blog is for frustrated and confused owners, like you, who are not getting results you deserve in digital marketing.
But you’re not alone
Who is Urban Renström you ask?
I am a marketeer, just a person wanting to help frustrated and struggling business owners, like you, get success with social media marketing, content marketing and email marketing.
The name. My name is pronounced Urban that’s the English or American pronunciation. It’s actually Swedish. Although you hear my American accent. I live in the US for a long time and acquired the accent and a lot of my business ‘never say die’ attitude.
I’m living in Ireland now. And read it bit more on my about us page.
My name is pronounced (Urban – roll the ‘r’, add ‘bon’, say UWR-bahn, Urban), excellent. See that wasn’t so tough.
My ‘Why’, helping people. I have experience with this marketing ‘thing’ and began my marketing career in the madmen days of the 90s where it was two Martini lunches schmooze with customers and where the deal was done was on the golf course and not through an email or a text message.
I’ve had success and I’ve had lots of failure in business and in life. Which is frustrating and normal.
Why I’m here though? It is to help accelerate your understanding of these channels so you can get your conveyor belt of leads, sales and business moving again or perhaps moving faster.
This is my ‘why’.
Digital Marketing is Tough
Digital marketing is not an easy thing to do. It has lot of moving parts and if one of those parts stops spinning, then, the leads, sales and business comes crashing to a halt. Which is scary and happens regularly. That’s why I am in business.
But which part is the ‘ghost in the machine’?
I’m here to help you find your ghost. And getting unstuck is why I started this blog, the podcast and why I created the digital marketing library.
And these are the three parts of digital marketing I help you with.
Why just these three?
Social Media Marketing
Because these three are the first hurdles all small businesses must overcome.
Social media pages is relatively easy thing to set up, but, to do it right, to get sales from social is not easy. And getting sales from social is where lots of yous are struggling.
We all see the fancy buttons on a website and when we click there are no followers, and the pages have not been updated.
I always ask what’s the benefit of these channels ‘button’ if you’re not using them to build a community.
And community is the biggest benefit of social. Social media is the perfect place channel for people to get to know you, like you and trust you.
What will your community talk about.
What we ‘put’ in social is content.
We cannot just throw anything up and hope it sticks. Content what your community talks about.
Content is the fuel, social media is fire.
Content marketing is much more than ‘here is my special offer for today’. Because everyone has their special offer. And what so special if everyone has a special?
I don’t underestimate the challenges and difficulty of content marketing and community building.
Both are easy to get wrong.
Content marketing needs a plan. This plan begins with a content strategy. And content marketing and content strategy is one topic we will cover in future episodes.
But, content and social media, often, by themselves, is not enough for people to get to know you, like you and trust you. Maybe the relationship needs more intimately?
Enter email marketing. Email is that intimate communication channel.
Email is powerful because it’s an intimate. And fortuitously, everyone has an email account and everyone use email. How do you get You need an email address to log onto all social media and onto iTunes.
The challenge is convincing people to willingly give over their email address so you can begin relationship building.
Why am I harping on about email? Whilst email has been around for a long time it’s maligned, the ugly duckling of marketing. Which is kind of unfortunate because it’s email is where you can build personal relationships and equity with your fans and subscribers.
This personal relationships and equity is useful when you want to offer your product or service.
In the realm of relationships Social media is casual, transient and somewhat distant. Email is one step closer. And a phone number is well as close as you want a brand or business to get.
And email marketing is one of the topics we will cover during future episodes.
Putting it all Together
Social, content and email, together, are powerful for your business.
I began this podcast as another way to offer tips, techniques and strategies. The value and knowledge on the blog is a little bit different then on my Facebook page and that’s the reason why started this podcast.
